UK–NL Workshop on Photonics in Healthcare

26.05 - 27.05.2026

Tuesday 26 May – Wednesday 27 May 2026, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom, London

Photonics is opening up new possibilities in healthcare, ranging from diagnostics and sensing to imaging, surgical guidance, monitoring, and minimally invasive or therapeutic
applications. Both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have strong research and
innovation capabilities in this field. At the same time, many of the key questions are no
longer only about the technologies themselves, but also about how they can be translated,
validated, and brought closer to clinical practice.

To support closer UK–NL exchange on this topic, the Netherlands Innovation Network UK,
part of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, is organising a bilateral UK–NL workshop on photonics in healthcare in London on 26 May. The workshop aims to bring together
researchers, clinicians, knowledge and translational institutes, and other relevant innovation and public-sector actors from both countries to exchange perspectives on current technological developments, gain insight into the UK and Dutch ecosystems, discuss shared challenges and translational bottlenecks, and explore where there may be opportunities for Further UK–NL collaboration.

The programme will consist of a full workshop day at the Embassy on Tuesday, 26 May. In addition, the programme will continue on the morning of Wednesday 27 May with two work visits to the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery at Imperial College London and to the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) at King’s College London.

We would love you to attend the workshop. To register, please send your RSVP to bente-vanden.braber@minbuza.nl by 1 May.
