BRIGHT IP modules & Bright – Boards

Scope

The project aims to develop photonic IC test modules with functionalities for variety of application areas. The modules contain functional elements (or building blocks or IP blocks) including lasers, modulators, filters, spectrometers, and switches. These modules are called Bright-BoardsTM, in analogy to electronic breadboards. The boards enable a much faster path for prototyping by using readily available hardware. Application developers can use one or more of such boards to rapidly test photonic capabilities and compare technologies in-house in their test setup.

Main result achieved

Bright Photonics has realised nine PICs for Bright- BoardsTM. They were fabricated using silicon nitride (SiN, e.g. Lionix) and indium phosphide (InP. e.g. SMART Photonics) technologies. All Bright- Boards are ready for characterisation.
